What’s age got to do with it? Ask actor Prachi Desai and the 20-year-old gives you a lowdown on how she will no longer do mommy and wifey roles in television or films any more. “I am desperately looking for roles that are my age. It is not that I am averse to playing mature roles but I want to have a youthful character also,” says the actress whose most famous celluloid outing was as Farhan Akhtar’s wife in Rock On. Even her latest film,Life Partner,which released earlier this month,casts her as the bharatiya nari whose only demands from life is a partner who is supportive and compassionate.

“Now,people have begun asking me who my life partner is,” says Desai,who is preparing for her graduation exams from Mithibai College,Mumbai. “I had signed Life Partner much before Rock On. I thought that doing a comedy would help me shed the image of a young mother from my TV serial Kasamh Se. But it did not occur to me that I would be typecast in another image,” she says. For now,her prayers are being answered,as she will be playing the role of a young Muslim girl in the Ajay Devgan-starrer,Once Upon a Time in Mumbai. “It is set in the 1970s and recounts for the rise of the underworld in Mumbai at the time,” she says.
