Students held a protest outside SGTB Khalsa College, alleging that the college was adopting unfair means of admission through its sports quota for the upcoming academic session. Most of the protesting students were from the Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP).

Ashutosh Srivastava,State Secretary of ABVP,said a few students who had been shortlisted through the college sports trials were asked to submit their documents for admission. However, when these students went to the college to submit their fees, they were denied admission. In a few cases, the students were even asked to pay a certain amount as donation,Shrivastava alleged.

“There are around 10 students who are struggling for admission in Khalsa. Four kho-kho candidates have been subjected to undue demands,” he said.

Angry protestors burnt an effigy of college principal Jaswinder Singh. Ajay Dangi,a student, claimed he was denied admission by college authorities when he came to submit his fees, even after he had put in his documents after the trials. “I was asked to pay Rs 1 lakh to the college to get admission,” he alleged.

Jaswinder Singh refused to comment on the matter.

When contacted,S K Vij,Dean,Students Welfare (DSW) said: “We have not received any complaints on such a matter.”
