Abducted businessman, help rescued

Police said the kidnappers had initially decided to peg the ransom amount at Rs 1 crore.

An Ahmedabad-based businessman and his domestic help, who were abducted by a Haryana-based 10-member gang, were rescued by the Crime Branch from Fatehpuri on Friday.

The businessman, Jai Min, deals in scrap metal and had travelled to Delhi from Ahmedabad. Police received a complaint of his abduction and that the kidnappers had demanded Rs 10 lakh.

Police said the kidnappers had initially decided to peg the ransom amount at Rs 1 crore but they brought it down after Min tricked them into believing that he was an employee and not the owner of his company.

Police arrested one member, Javed, when he came to collect the money in Chandni Chowk. Police said Javed revealed that the gang was waiting with the two victims in Fatehpuri. Police rescued the two while the gang fled.
