Lt-Governor Najeeb Jung
The opposition BJP and Congress in Delhi Friday attacked Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung and the ruling AAP government over their continuing spat on the denial of parole to former Haryana chief minister O P Chautala.
The Lt Governor’s office upped its attack on the government, claiming it was being targeted for not clearing files that Delhi Home Minister Satyendar Jain had sought.

BJP spokesperson Harish Khurana referred to the public spat between two of Delhi’s constitutional bodies as a “comedy of errors.”
“The AAP government and the LG is to blame for this, in the middle of which the common man is getting hurt. This is not the first time they have fought over issues that have never troubled governments in the past,” said Khurana. He added that the politics over granting parole to the 85-year-old Chautala was demeaning to all citizens of Delhi.
Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee President Ajay Maken said the Lt Governor’s claims against the Kejriwal government was ‘unprecedented.’ “They have to work in tandem in Delhi, but instead choose to fight on every issue. Both the government and the LG are to blame for this,” said Maken.
Earlier in the day, the AAP alleged that Jung was helping Chautala get parole for a second time in less than five months and sought a probe into the LG’s role in “helping a convicted politician”. The party also claimed Jung wanted to help Chautala shift out from Tihar to a jail in Bhatinda in Punjab.
“The party demands that the BJP-led central government, which has so far been defending all the wrong and illegal actions of Najeeb Jung, should seek all the facts about the undue interest shown by the Delhi LG in the case of a convicted politician,” an official statement by the party said.
“When O P Chautala moved an extension of parole request on April 30, the home minister of Delhi government rejected it as unwarranted. But the LG overruled the opinion of the democratically elected government and granted extension. Why did the LG disregard the opinion of the Delhi government to benefit a corrupt politician,” said AAP.
