‘AAP govt did nothing in the last 10 years… except switch off our mics’: BJP MLA Vijender Gupta

Under the leadership of PM Modi, the new BJP government will present the 14 long-pending CAG (Comptroller and Auditor General) reports in the very first session of the Delhi Assembly, claimed Gupta.

Vijender Gupta, former Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Assembly and three-time MLA from Rohini, will now find himself across the political aisle. On Saturday, the BJP swept the Assembly election with 48 seats and Gupta himself won by the highest margin — 37,816 votes — among other BJP MLAs. In an interview with Gayathri Mani, he says the first order of business for the new government will be presenting all 14 CAG reports in the first sitting of the Assembly session.

Excerpts:

This is your third consecutive win. How do you feel?

I am very thankful to the public for trusting me… In a way, the people have handed over Delhi to the Prime Minister because the AAP-da had created such a mess that the city is crumbling today. They (the public) wanted change, development and relief from the AAP-da government.

What is BJP’s roadmap for the first year?

Delhi is the national capital and its people are crying for basic facilities like pothole-free roads and clean water. Ensuring this is the government’s responsibility. The previous government did nothing in the last 10 years. We will not wait or take two-three years to achieve our target. We’ll start working to resolve these issues from day one on a war footing. This is our commitment.

After resigning, former CM Atishi said the AAP would make BJP fulfill the promise of giving Rs 2,500 to women…

First, I think they should apologise to the people for making fake promises. They promised women Rs 1,000 in Delhi and Punjab but did not deliver. The people have punished you for that and instead of apologising, these non-performers are advising us now. If we have promised it, we will do it.

How is the BJP going to implement this scheme?

It is on our agenda, and we will deliver it. PM ki guarantee matlab poori hone ki guarantee (If the PM has said it, it will be done). AAP implementing its scheme was a mere gimmick. We will bring our scheme and work in a time-bound manner to deliver it.

As LoP in the previous Assembly, you raised several issues from pending CAG reports to renovation costs of the CM’s official residence. Will this be taken up by the new government?

Under the leadership of PM Modi, the new BJP government will present the 14 long-pending CAG (Comptroller and Auditor General) reports in the very first session of the Delhi Assembly. I met the Lieutenant-Governor sahab in this regard today. He has promised full cooperation. As soon as these reports are made public, the massive corruption of the now-defunct AAP government will be laid bare, revealing how Kejriwal and his party leaders misled the people of Delhi with lies while engaging in corruption worth crores.

Till now, they did not let us raise issues in the Assembly and never let us speak. Be it issues of roads, sewage, cleaning the Yamuna or pollution, as soon as we started raising the issues, they used to switch off our mics… This will now change.

Who is going to be Delhi’s CM?

This is a high-command issue. There are 48 MLAs and the party can choose anyone. Whatever decision the party takes, it will be for the benefit of Delhi, the country, the government, and the people… We have full confidence in our leadership that the decision will be taken keeping everything in mind…
