Fearing a retaliation by BJP supporters, the Delhi Police set up barricades all around the 41, Hanuman Road office, restricting entry.
A day after members of the Aam Aadmi Party and the BJP fought a pitched battle outside the BJP headquarters — with stones, sticks and water cannons — the AAP’s head office at Hanuman Road was locked down by police personnel and volunteers alike.
Fearing a retaliation by BJP supporters, close to a hundred policemen were posted outside the AAP office, and while there were moments where people who ostensibly supported the BJP arrived there and began shouting slogans, no untoward incidents were reported.
Early on Thursday morning, the Delhi Police set up barricades all around the 41, Hanuman Road office, restricting entry. Officers on the spot said the measures were precautionary.
“After what happened outside the BJP office on Wednesday, we want to ensure that any untoward incident is nipped in the bud. Barricades have been set up and only AAP members and residents of the area are being allowed past,” a police officer said.
By the afternoon, a group of around 40 people, calling themselves BJP supporters collected outside the barricades. “They were shouting slogans against the AAP, and mocking our volunteers. However, we had instructed all volunteers to stay calm and not react at all,” a senior AAP leader said.
The jibes were mostly aimed at volunteers entering and exiting the party office.
A senior AAP member said, “Several volunteers were injured in the tussle and they were sporting bandages. The BJP people kept mocking them, but there was no violence. Most volunteers were asked to stay away from the party office to avoid a standoff in the morning.”
