The Delhi Police crime branch on Saturday seized 8,352 bottles of illicit liquor from a godown in Uttam Nagar.
The crime branch had received information of illicit liquor being brought into Delhi from Haryana for distribution among “gullible voters,” JCP(Crime) Ravindra Yadav said.
After receiving specific information, police seized 497 cartons of liquor from a godown in Uttam Nagar’s Om Vihar. The seized liquor included bottles of Royal Stag and Double Stag whiskey. Delhi EC officials said the ownership of the godown is being verified.
Police have lodged an FIR under sections of the Excise Act for violation of the model code of conduct.
Since the model code kicked in on January 12, the Delhi EC has seized 246 bottles and 33,455 quarters of Indian-made foreign liquor and 719 bottles of country liquor.
