4 cops held for ‘taking bribe’ in lieu of allowing liquor from Gurgaon

All accused have been sent to judicial custody for 14 days

On the complaint given by one Sukh Karan, a case under IPC section 384 (Extortion), 323 (Voluntarily Causing hurt).”

Four Delhi Police personnel were suspended and later arrested for allegedly receiving Rs 7.4 lakh in bribe from four men who were illegally bringing liquor from Gurgaon to Delhi on Tuesday, officers said.

Said DCP (Southwest) Rohit Meena, “It is submitted that on May 28, a PCR call regarding physical assault and extortion by police officials was received at Vasant Kunj South Police Station. On the complaint given by one Sukh Karan, a case under IPC section 384 (Extortion) and 323 (Voluntarily Causing hurt) has been lodged.”

He added that during the course of interrogation, “All involved police personnel have been arrested and accused was produced before the court on May 29 and sent to judicial custody for 14 days.”

Said an officer, “The complainants were bringing illicit alcohol from Gurgaon in their vehicles when they were intercepted by the said officers…the complainants alleged that the officers demanded a bribe of Rs 8 lakh and we have so far only recovered Rs 7.4 lakh from them…they were posted with the Narcotics unit of the Southwest district… disciplinary proceedings against them are ongoing”.
