326 buses get relief, govt likely to appeal

The Delhi High Court order for Bluelines has given a fresh lease of life to around 326 buses, whose permit will be valid even after January 31.

The Delhi High Court order for Bluelines has given a fresh lease of life to around 326 buses, whose permit will be valid even after January 31.

The Delhi government has, however, said that the permits of 103 buses out of these 326 will expire by April and they will then go off roads. The rest are likely to continue till 2012,when their permits finally expire. At present,Bluelines operators run 2,041 buses.

“We are happy that majority of the Bluelines will be off the city roads and only 326 will remain following the High Court judgment. Out of the remaining 326,permits of 103 Blueline buses will expire by April this year and 203 will then be left. We are yet to receive the court order and once that comes we will work out a final plan,” said Arvinder Singh Lovely,Transport Minister.

Sources said the government is likely to appeal in the court again and even if the 326 Blueline buses are allowed to ply, their routes will be re-worked. “If the 326 Blueline buses have to ply,we might change their routes and ply them only in a particular area. The aim is to ensure that there are no accidents because of Bluelines.”

Meanwhile, there is no clarity whether the remaining Bluelines will be seen on the roads on Tuesday. While Lovely said now a fresh notification has to be issued permitting the remaining the buses to ply, operators maintained that they will run the buses now that the High Court has granted relief.

“Till we receive the court order and issue a fresh notification allowing the Blueline buses to ply, their presence on the roads will be considered illegal. There will be enforcement squads deployed across the city from February 1 that will impound all Blueline buses seen plying on the roads. Only once we receive the court order and work out a plan will we issue a fresh notification,” said Lovely.

Shyamlal Gola, the spokesperson of Delhi Bus Ekta Manch, said: “Now that the court has granted relief, those buses with valid permits will continue to ply on their existing routes.”
