An FIR was later lodged on March 10 under sections of extortion and voluntarily causing hurt.
Two meat suppliers were allegedly thrashed and robbed of Rs 25,000 by a group of seven men, including three Delhi Police personnel, in Shahdara.
Police have registered a case against the accused and suspended all three policemen, including an assistant sub-inspector. The alleged incident took place on March 7 in Anand Vihar and an FIR was registered four days later.
As per the FIR, Nawab (21), a meat supplier at Ghazipur slaughterhouse, was in his Santro car with his cousin Shoaib when the incident took place. “We were going home to Mustafabad… A scooter hit our car near Anand Vihar. We got out and the rider said he wants Rs 4,000 for repairs. A PCR van then arrived and a policeman took Rs 2,500 and gave the rider the money,” Nawab alleged in the FIR.
The victims alleged the policemen in the PCR van called four others and took them to an isolated spot. “The accused started demanding Rs 15,000 from us…We were confined. They beat us up. They tried to cut our hands with a knife. They also urinated on our faces, threatened to kill us and said they would dump our bodies in a drain. They accused us of slaughtering cows and robbed us of Rs 25,000,” alleged Nawab. The men alleged they were confined for 2-3 hours and made to sign a few “blank papers”.
The men sustained injuries to their limbs and back and were taken to GTB hospital. On March 8, they called police from the hospital but nobody took their complaint, they alleged.
An FIR was later lodged on March 10 under sections of extortion and voluntarily causing hurt.
A police officer told The Indian Express, “We are verifying the allegations. As per preliminary enquiry, departmental action has been initiated against the three policemen, including an ASI. They have been suspended. We found footage showing policemen in the area at the time of the incident. The location of their PCR van was also the same. However, we are not sure who the four people are.”
