18-year-old student ends life

A first-year student of B Pharma committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan in her hostel room in Pushp Vihar,South Delhi,on Monday. Police recovered a suicide note for the room of Shivani Rana (18).

Police said Rana was a student of Delhi Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research. “She had gone home in Bhagpat,UP,for Diwali,” said a police officer. “She came back a few days ago and yesterday she hanged herself with a dupatta from the ceiling fan.”

Police said the suicide note was addressed to her father. “It is a two-line note. It says I am sorry for committing this act,” said the officer. Police are yet to ascertain the cause of suicide.

Rana’s father,a farmer in Bhagpat,however,said the handwriting on the note does not match that of his daughter.

“It is a murder,” he said. Police have registered a case and investigations are on.
