Around 1,000 new auto-rickshaws fitted with GPS-enabled fare meters are plying on city roads, the Delhi government said on Wednesday.

Delhi Transport Minister Ramakant Goswami has asked for quick action on complaints regarding difficulties in purchase of new auto-rickshaws.

“A review meeting on issues related to purchase of new auto-rickshaws was held. I have instructed the department to ensure that all auto-rickshaw dealers submit their daily report on bookings, sales and stock. The reports are being compiled by dealers, but could not be dispatched due to difficulties at ground level,’’ Goswami said.

Goswami said non-compliance of these instructions would be taken seriously and strict action would be taken against auto dealers who do not submit daily reports. “The department has been asked to take urgent action in case of any complaint regarding difficulties in purchase of new auto-rickshaws,’’ Goswami said.

There are around 55,000 autos on Delhi’s roads at present. Delhi government’s Transport department had issued a notice on August 13 to start the process of issuing permits for 45,000 new auto-rickshaws.
