Police said Shanmugesh owned 11 vehicles and used them to transport garment workers and schoolchildren.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-East) T D Pawar said the fire was noticed by neighbours around 3 am. They tried to douse it but failed and called the fire department.

Sources in the fire and emergency services department said they received a call around 3.15 am and rushed four vehicles rushed to the scene.

They managed to prevent the fire from spreading to other vehicles.

“We have sent some crucial evidence to the forensic science lab to know the exact cause of the incident,” Pawar said.
