2 killed in clash during Ganesh idol procession

Two construction workers were brutally done to death in a clash between rival groups during a Ganesh idol immersion procession in Janakiram Layout Sunday night.

Two construction workers were brutally done to death in a clash between rival groups during a Ganesh idol immersion procession in Janakiram Layout Sunday night.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) P S Harsha said C Karthik (19) and R Keshava (18) were dancing when someone stepped on the latter’s foot as the procession reached near St Paul’s School in Lingarajapuram around 11.30 pm.

A fight ensued and Keshava was attacked by a gang of about 10. They slit his throat and stabbed Karthik,who had jumped to the rescue of his friend,and fled. Onlookers rushed Keshava and Karthik to Bowring Hospital,where they were declared brought dead.

Banasawadi police have made three arrests. The gang,the police said,included Bhima Raj,Puppy,Bharath,Dileep,Suresh alias Gudia,Anand,Saravana,Chandrasekhar and Vijaya,all aged between 18 and 20.
