On Tuesday morning, Kodambakkam recorded the highest rainfall (7 cm) in the city, followed by Vanagaram near Maduravoyal, Anna Nagar, and Ambattur (Tiruvallur district) each measuring 6 cm of rainfall. Nungambakkam (Chennai district) and Puzhal (Tiruvallur district) recorded 5 cm rainfall each.
As per the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai, Monday’s (August 28) trough from South Interior Karnataka to Comorin area across western parts of Tamil Nadu, at 0.9 km above Mean Sea Level, continues.
The RMC, in a bulletin issued on Tuesday, said that Chennai city and its neighbourhood will see partly cloudy conditions for the next 24 hours. “Light to moderate rain with thunderstorms and lightning is likely to occur in some areas. Maximum temperature is likely to be 34-35 °C and minimum temperature is likely to be around 25 °C,” the bulletin added.
The bulletin said that light to moderate rainfall is likely to occur at one or two places across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal, and heavy rain is likely to occur in isolated places over delta areas, including Thanjavur, Ariyalur, Pudukkotai, and Tiruchirapalli and in other districts like Dindigul, Perambalur, Sivaganga, Theni and Madurai districts of Tamil Nadu on Tuesday. Nilgiris and Ghat areas of Coimbatore districts are also likely to receive heavy rainfall.
From Wednesday till Friday, heavy rainfall is likely to occur over Theni, Dindigul, Cuddalore, Villupuram, Tiruvannamalai, Kallakurichi, Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Vellore, Salem, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Erode, Ranipet and Tiruppatur districts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
