The Chennai police are enhancing security around Marina Beach in response to an intelligence report about a potential unscheduled protest linked to Manipur violence. Sources said that a thorough assessment of the situation is underway.

While the intelligence report was that unofficial groups were making plans for an impromptu gathering at the beach on Friday evening, a senior official said, adding that nearly a hundred police personnel have already been deployed.

“The information is that this unanticipated protest is expected to lack a structure, with neither identifiable leaders nor political banners. Activists from random groups and organisations may be joining hands, we are told,” the officer said, adding that authorities were maintaining tight surveillance.
