YouTuber and motorist T T F Vasan The Madras High Court on Thursday refused to grant bail to popular YouTube vlogger TTF Vasan, who was arrested in a rash driving case after his motorbike stunt went wrong on the Chennai-Bengaluru highway recently.
Vasan, who has built a cult following on social media with his motorbike stunts on public roads, was thrown off his motorbike on September 17 while reportedly attempting a wheelie, a trick in which the front wheel of a two-wheeler is raised off the road for a brief period.
“Quite fortunately for others and unfortunately for the petitioner, he alone had suffered an injury during the incident. It is a lesson for him. Let him continue to be in custody,” the Bar and Bench website quoted Justice C V Karthikeyan as saying while dismissing Vasan’s bail plea.
The additional public prosecutor submitted that Vasan, who runs a YouTube channel called Twin Throttlers, had around 4.5 million followers on social media. The prosecutor also stated that many youngsters who admire Vasan and other popular bikers often got influenced and carried away by watching such videos and that they end up driving rashly and attempting dangerous stunts, endangering their own lives and the lives of other road users, according to Bar and Bench.
CCTV visuals of the incident that happened at Kancheepuram’s Baluchertty Chatram village went viral on social media and Vasan was booked under sections related to rash driving, indulging in acts endangering personal safety of others as well as attempting to commit culpable homicide. He has been lodged in the Puzhal prison.
Vasan was called out and booked in the past as well for his rash driving. A friend of Vasan’s, who also runs a vlog, said that they were on a trip to Maharashtra when the accident occurred. He said that Vasan had not attempted a wheelie but lost control of the motorbike.
