A diehard MS Dhoni fan who shot to fame in 2020 after covering his house in Chennai Super Kings’ yellow colour, with its walls sporting the cricketer’s pictures and his IPL team’s logo, died by suicide at the same house in Tamil Nadu on Thursday.

A police officer in Ramanatham told indianexpress.com that issues related to previous enmity were believed to have led Gopi Krishnan, 34, to take the extreme step. He said Krishnan killed himself around 4.30 am at his home in Arangur in Cuddalore district.

Ram, who identified himself as Krishnan’s brother, told Thanthi TV that his brother had a financial dispute with a few men in a neighbouring village. Krishnan recently had an altercation with them and was injured in the incident, his brother said, adding that he was upset after the incident.

The Ramanatham police have registered a case of unnatural death.

As a tribute to his role model and his beloved IPL team, Krishnan had also named his house as Home of Dhoni Fan.

A viral video of the house had reached Dhoni, who then said it was a great gesture.

“It is not something that can be done very easily. You say…You decide… the whole family needs to agree on that and then you go ahead with something like that. I would like to say thank you to the full family and I think it’s a great gesture,” he had said in a video.
