Mohali police on Wednesday arrested a 24-year old-youth for allegedly blackmailing a girl. The accused has been identified as Devinder Singh,a Chandigarh resident. Devinder had allegedly made an obscene MMS and clicked objectionable photos of the victim and was threatening to release the video if she did not pay him money.
According to the police,the accused,an MBA student was friends with the victims room-mate. The victim has complained to the police that Devinder has been threatening to release the obscene video if she did not pay him Rs 50,000.
Tarlochan Singh,Station House Officer,Mattour Police station,said, The girl had gone with another girl,her room-mate,to a hotel in Sector 52,where they met Devinder. The accused was known to the victims room-mate. While the victims friend was away the boy made the obscene video by tying up her hands. Later,Devinder started blackmailing her and starting demanding Rs 50,000 to return the objectionable video.
He added that the girl had approached a member of a political party,who informed the police. The victim fixed up a meeting with the accused in Phase 7 park where she was to deliver the money . The police set up a trap and nabbed the accused.
The Chandigarh police have also been informed as the video was allegedly made in Chandigarh. Charges will be framed against the accused in Chandigarh after the investigations are complete. Meanwhile,Mohali police presented Devinder in court. He has been remanded to judicial custody.
