Yechury promises Shimla a better alternative in CPM

Leader of the Communist Party of India (Marxist),Sitaram Yechury,on Thursday,assured Shimla a better alternative - a functional model of civic administration if the party was voted to rule Shimla Municipal Corporation.

The CPI(M) has fielded Sanjay Chauhan and Tikender Panwar for the post of Mayor and Deputy Mayor in addition to fielding some councillors. Addressing an election meeting at Subzi mandi ground,Yechury said that there was not much difference between the Congress – which had ruled Shimla Municipal Corporation for 25 years – and the BJP. “The CPI(M) has potential to provide clean,transparent and functional model to Shimla. Efforts will be made to ensure better civic rule and attending to the needs the masses,” he added.

The rally,which was also addressed by CPI(M) leader Rakesh Singha,was aimed at boosting the party’s prospects in the poll.

Slams UPA for petrol price hike

SHIMLA: Yechury came down heavily against the UPA government for hike in the petrol prices terming it as a criminal act. “The move is criminal and puts additional burden on the people,” said Yechuri.

Dhumal seeks roll back

SHIMLA: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal on Thursday demanded an immediate withdrawal of the petrol price hike. “Since the time UPA has been heading government at the Centre,the people have repeatedly been burdened with price hike. While the prices of oil were coming down lowering in the international market,the UPA government was increasing the same to widen the gap between rich and poor,” he said.
