The ruling NCP in Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Friday lost the fight to host the international wrestling competition at a location of their choice as the sports committee gave its nod to a proposal put forth by Congress and MNS corporators seeking event be held at Shivaji stadium in Mangalwar Peth.

“The decision on the location was taken unanimously in the meeting,” said Anil Tingre,Chairperson,Sports Committee.

The proposal was pending with the committee for two months as differences emerged within the ruling NCP,with one faction demanding that the event be reorganised at Warje while the other faction led by legislator Bapu Pathare wanting it to be organised at Kharadi.

Later, the event ran into rough weather when the Congress and the MNS submitted a separate proposal seeking that the event be held at Shivaji stadium as it is a civic facility and in the heart of city. The BJP had demanded that the competition be organised at S P College ground.

“There was no consensus within the NCP,so the issue was discussed with Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar. He advised to hold the event at Shivaji stadium to resolve the issue,” said Tingre.
