Woman sets herself on fire,suffers 100% burns

A 25-year-old woman allegedly attempted suicide by setting herself ablaze in Maloya village here today. The victim,Savita,sustained 100 per cent burn injuries while her husband,Pintu (30) suffered 50 per cent burn injuries while trying to save her. The couple have been married from four years and have a two-year-old son. They hail from Bihar and work as labourers in the city.

According to the police,the incident took place in the morning when Pintu was washing his clothes. Savita asked Pintu to give her some money. He asked her to wait and let him first wash the clothes first.

She then rushed inside the house and locked herself in a room. She soaked herself in kerosene oil and set herself ablaze.

On hearing her screams,Pintu rushed to save her.

The police rushed the couple to PGI where Savita is battling for her life while Pintu’s condition is stated to be stable. On statement of Pintu,the police have registered a case of attempt to suicide under Section 309 of the IPC against Savita.
