Mohlai voters are disillusioned by political parties and their candidates in fray for the May 13 general elections to the 15th Lok Sabha. A cross-section of local electorates with whom Newsline spoke were unanimous in their demand for bijli, sadak and paani and were sore over the missing basic facilities in the projected Future City of the state.
Rajesh Gupta,lawyer:
We are fed up with the hollow promises of the politicians claiming to make Mohali the best city of Punjab. Nobody seems to be bothered about the erratic power and water supply besides dilapidated roads unworthy of driving.
Manpreet Singh,Chief Executive,Global Nexus Security Services:
Our politicians should study ground realities before making the plans for future development. Where you are unable to provide adequate power and water supply besides a proper road network, how can you take the place ahead in any other field of development?
Neena Aggarwal,businesswoman:
Living is hell when you do not even have proper power, water supply and roads. There is no reliability of power and water supply, which plays truant in routine, and deep potholes on majority roads keep you reminding the indifference of the politicians towards Mohali.
Abhay Jain,industrialist:
Industry in Mohali is dying due to long powercuts. Despite repeated demands, the present regime has totally failed to give any succor to the local industry. Under such circumstances, the promises of developing Mohali into an industrial hub only sound ridiculous.
Bubbu Tir,writer:
Our elected leaders triumph on our goodwill and trust, yet we are left to grope about for our head to come about solutions. Basic infrastructure and a peaceful existence in a civilised society are still far-fetched Utopian concepts but soaring wealth in their bank accounts comes about easily.
Dr Amita Dadwal,a resident of Phase IV:
The unsatisfactory arrangements of power, water and roads speak volumes about the lackadaisical approach of our politicians who are only concerned about their own future without paying any heed to what public wants.
Balneet Birah,management
Professional:
Power and water woes have become a part of our lives and better roads seem to be a distant dream. These politicians should feel ashamed while seeking votes for development. Except accusing each other, the candidates never talk about real issues concerning the common man.
