Union Minister for Steel Virbhadra Singh has filed a fresh petition in the Himachal Pradesh High Court seeking quashing of the FIR registered against him in the corruption case. Justice Kuldeep Singh will hear the petition on August 19.

The FIR against Virbhadra was registered last year on the basis of a CD that purportedly had his voice, besides his wife Pratibha Singh’s who is a former Congress MP. The CD was released by former Congress minister Vijay Singh Mankotia in 2007.

As the case came up for hearing,R S Cheema,a leading lawyer in Chandigarh, and Sharvan Dogra moved an application, seeking court’s intervention to ask the government and the state’s Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau to present its stand on certain documents, which the investigation agency had allegedly tried to conceal during proceedings.

The documents, which Virbhadra Singh has obtained through the Right to Information Act,relate to certain queries that the forensic laboratory in Chandigarh had raised related to the controversial CD.
