Vikramaditya richest candidate in fray, rival Kangana a close second

Vikramaditya, the incumbent PWD minister in the state and the tutelar king of the erstwhile estate of Rampur Bushar, has properties worth Rs 100 crore and Rs 51 lakh.

According to affidavits submitted to the Election Commission of India (ECI), Mandi parliamentary constituency candidates Vikramaditya Singh of the Congress and Kangana Ranaut of the BJP are the richest among all candidates fielded on the four Lok Sabha seats in Himachal Pradesh.

Vikramaditya, the incumbent PWD minister in the state and the tutelar king of the erstwhile estate of Rampur Bushar, has properties worth Rs 100 crore and Rs 51 lakh. His annual income in 2022-23 was Rs 53.51 lakh from agriculture and horticulture. Vikramaditya’s father was a six-time chief minister of Himachal Pradesh, and his mother Pratibha Singh is the president of the Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC).

Kangana, who described herself as an actress, director and producer, has assets worth Rs 91.50 crore, including movable assets of Rs 28.73 crore and immovable assets worth Rs 62.92 crore. In her affidavit, she had declared having two Mercedes-Benz cars worth Rs 4.49 crore and a BMW car worth Rs 98 lakh. In terms of jewellery, Kangana has 6.700 kilograms of gold jewellery valued at Rs 5 crore, sixty kilograms of silver valued at Rs 50 lakh, and diamonds worth Rs 3 crore.

Vikramaditya has a liability of Rs 1.50 crore (Rs 1,50,12,918), while his opponent Kangna has a liability of Rs 17.38 crore (Rs 17,38,86,641). Kangana disclosed her educational qualification as Class XII passed from DAV Public School, Sector 15, Chandigarh, in 2003. Her opponent Vikramaditya is an MA in History from St Stephen’s College in Delhi.

Congress MLA from Kullu and Chief Parliamentary Secretary (CPS) Sunder Singh Thakur, who filed his affidavit as a proposer to Vikramaditya, disclosed his assets worth Rs 24.65 crore (Rs 24,65,85,961), including movable assets worth `2.89 crore and immovable assets worth Rs 21.76 crore.

Congress candidate from Kangra Anand Sharma possesses assets, including movable and immovable, worth Rs 16.82 crore (Rs 16,8230,425) jointly with his wife Dr Zenobia Sharma. Congress’s Hamirpur candidate Satpal Singh Raizada has wealth worth Rs 1.65 crore (Rs 1,65,45,522), while his two sons have a capital investment of Rs 18 crore in Hotel Raizada Resorts in Una.

BJP Hamirpur candidate and Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Anurag Thakur possesses assets worth Rs 11.95 crore (Rs 11,95,07,882) jointly with his wife Shefali Thakur. Anurag, who is contesting for the fifth time, has a liability of Rs 1.43 crore (Rs 1,43,74,994). he described himself as a businessman, social activist and current Member of Parliament.

BJP candidate from Kangra Dr Rajeev Bhardwaj owns assets worth Rs 5.78 crore (Rs 5,78,03,886) jointly with his wife. He described himself as a practising doctor.

Congress’s Shimla candidate Vinod Sultanpuri possesses assets worth Rs 9.22 crore (Rs 9,22,83,286) jointly with his wife. Sultanpuri’s immovable assets include 80 bighas of agricultural land jointly with his brother and three commercial properties in Solan district. The total worth of his immovable property is Rs 8.40 crore in the affidavit submitted to the ECI. Sultanpuri is also an elected MLA from Kasauli.

BSP candidates Prakash Chand Bhardwaj from Mandi, Advocate Anil Kumar Manget from Shimla, Rekha Rani from Kangra and Hem Raj from Hamirpur possess wealth worth Rs 1.64 crore (Rs 1,64,44,000), Rs 14.61 lakh, Rs 2.69 lakh, and Rs 47.20 lakh, respectively.
