The Vigilance Bureau has issued summons to former Punjab finance minister in the Congress government and now BJP leader Manpreet Badal in connection with a complaint of irregularities in the purchase of a property. Badal has been asked to appear before the investigating officer at the bureau’s Bathinda office on Monday.
The complaint against Badal was lodged by former Bathinda MLA Sarup Chand Singla, who was earlier in Shiromani Akali Dal but joined the BJP in 2022.
Vigilance Bureau officials said Singla lodged a complaint saying that a commercial area developed by the Punjab Urban Planning & Development Authority (PUDA) which lies on the road to Mansa from Model Town Phase 1 in Bathinda has been converted into a residential property by the former minister by misusing his position in the previous government.
The complainant has also alleged various other irregularities that have taken place in the auction and registration of the property in connivance with PUDA officials. It has also been alleged that the property in question was sold at lower rates than what was earlier decided.
