Director UIHMT to attend convention in Malaysia

CHANDIGARH: Director University Institute of Hotel Management & Tourism (UIHMT),Panjab University (PU),Professor R K Gupta will attend and chair the technical session of fifth International Convention from September 5 to 8 in Kuala Lumpur,Malasiya. The convention is being organised by Indian Tourism Congress with the academic collaboration of Taylor’s University on “Tourism towards New Horizons: Issues and Challenges”. Indian Tourism Congress is a non-profit making and non political organisation,working for the common cause of Tourism Academia. It has more than 300 life members working as professors,associate professors and assistant professors as well as the research scholars from different Indian universities,institutions and colleges. It was founded in 2003 and every year they hold one conference in India and one International convention.

Interview for MPhil,PhD in English

CHANDIGARH: Panjab University has informed that the interview for enrolment to PhD in English will be conducted on September 6 and for MPhil in English on September 10 at 10 am in the Department of English and Cultural Studies.

Chairperson,Department of English and Cultural Studies,Professor Lovelina Singh said the qualified candidates of the Combined Entrance Test conducted by PU for admission to MPhil and PhD in English can participate in the interview.

Lecture on nature held in city

CHANDIGARH: The National Academy of Sciences (NAS),Local Chapter,Chandigarh organised a lecture on the topic “Secrets of Nature — LHC Experiment and God Particle” at Shri Guru Gobind Singh College,Sector -26 on Saturday. The lecture was delivered by Professor Suman Bala Beri,from Department of Physics,Panjab University (PU) as a part of the Excitement in Sciences Lecture- series.

PU Professor Emeritus and NAS President,Dr K N Pathak said that human curiosity to understand nature has been there since ages and journey continues. A step towards this direction has been made by The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) experiments at Geneva,Switzerland. This has led to the sensational discovery and observation of ‘Higgs Boson’ (God Particle) by CMS and ATLAS collaborations at CERN,Geneva (Switzerland) on 4th July,2012. This has created one of the most exciting moments in the history of Physical Sciences. LHC is the largest scientific instrument ever built and is expected to circulate and collide proton-proton beams at a center-of-mass energy of 14 TeV. Some details of this discovery will be presented in the lecture,he added.

Restricted gate timings during polls

CHANDIGARH: Panjab University has informed that the gate no.1 of the university will remain open from 8 am to 10.15 am and 4.30 pm to 5.30 pm till September 3. In between it will remain closed due to students council elections.
