High drama was witnessed at the Panchkula District Courts on Thursday when an accused, involved in the case of an attack on cricketers in Kalka recently, was attacked by an undertrial with a sharp blade in the court premises.

Pradeep,a resident of Ratpur colony,Pinjore, surrendered to the Kalka police on Wednesday claiming he was involved in the attack on the cricket team in Kalka on March 5. Arrested under Sections 148,149,307,120 (b),he was produced in the court today.

Another undertrial,Gurvinder Singh,a resident of Pilkhani village,Ambala district, facing a trial for theft under Section 379,was also present in the cell in which Pradeep was placed.

After some argument,Gurvinder allegedly attacked Pradeep with a sharp blade leaving a deep cut on his face. It is reported by the Panchkula police that the duo knew each other and an old rivalry led to the incident.

Pradeep’s wife Shweta also claimed that both of them belonged to the same gang in Kalka and Pradeep surrendered before the police as he wanted to quit the gang, against the wishes of Gurvinder.

“Pradeep wanted to leave all this and reform himself but Gurvinder did not agree. This had led to arguments between them earlier too,” added Shweta. Pradeep was rushed to the General Hospital in Sector 6 for first aid after which he was sent to the Ambala jail. A case has been registered against Gurvinder for the attack on Pradeep.
