Two men stole a confidential document pertaining to a Sangrur-based blacklisted rice firm from the office of Punjab’s Director of the Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs at the Anaj Bhawan in Chandigarh Sector 39.

The suspects were identified as Pankaj Kumar and Ashok Kumar. Sources said the duo has reportedly claimed during the investigation that the alleged stolen documents belong to them.

The police said that the two men were identified in CCTV footage of September 9 when the duo was taking the document away from the office.

Mahesh Sharma, Superintendent, Rice Branch, at Anaj Bhawan, lodged an FIR against the two suspects Friday. He reported to the police that the stolen document belonged to blacklisted firm M/s Krishna Gram Udyog Samiti in Dhuri, Sangrur. The firm has already filed its appeal before the Secretary Food Supply, Punjab, against the decision.

The police said Sharma told them that during the hearing of an appeal filed by the blacklisted firm, the Secretary, Food Supply, had instructed the officers to issue a letter to Punjab State Power Corporation Ltd (PSPCL) in Dhuri, Sangrur, seeking certain clarity about the blacklisted firm.

Sharma further reported to the police that when senior assistant Asha Rani had come to him to collect the copy of the order issued by the Secretary, Food Supply, unknown persons stole a document from her cabin on September 6.

A police officer said, “Rani identified the two suspects through the CCTV footage. The suspects — Pankaj Kumar and Ashok Kumar — were summoned for investigation. We lodged an FIR and have started an investigation.”
