While most girls are limiting themselves to straightening their hair and getting a blond streak, the men are making heads turn with extravagant hairstyles. Take the case of Sector-21 based eye specialist Dr Rajan Chugh. Fond of experimenting with his hair,he is sporting a free-flowing,unkempt look. I am fond of designing and creating be it my house, clinic, furniture, car, clothes, shoes or the rings on my fingers. There is no harm if I create something new in front of the mirror too, he states. Its basically about innovation, which is apparent in all things I do, he adds. Amit Sood, owner of Roshan Studio,Sector 8,Panchkula,is also well-known for the manner in which he styles his hair and beard. It looks good, feels young, is his simple explanation. Sood has experimented with 50 different styles of beard. At present he sports closely cropped hair on his head and a plait, which he prefers to call Punjabi gutt,at the nape of his neck. Im going to grow it long. Girls dont have a copyright on it, he adds. Luckily for him,his entire family is supportive of his experiments. They feel Im the style icon of the family, he adds. Mind you,I got my hair straightened before John Abraham got it done, asserts Amit. It was my original idea,I did not copy him, says the 32-year-old. When it comes to zany hairstyles, men are least apprehensive, says Mohammed Aamir Ali,hair designer at the Headmasters Salon in Panchkula. Boys and young men tell me that they want a look which nobody has seen before. The kind of work they want on their hair is fantastic, he points out. Arjun Dewan,Class XI student of Vivek High School,Sector 38,too uses his spare time to try out different hairstyles. The 17-year-old is making the most of his week-long break, after exams,by colouring his hair and spiking it. Every time I have holidays I do something great with my hair. I have got used to passers-by staring at me, he says. At present,Dewans hair are black, red and blond. Of course, when I go to school I go back to the all-black look, says the lad.
