Trendy Tech

These aren’t items you’ll find among the Fall fashion must-haves-at least, not yet.

Mobile phones loose their brick shape, laptops flaunt bright colours and pen drives get a sparkle as technology turns fashionable

These aren’t items you’ll find among the Fall fashion must-haves — at least, not yet. “But then the speed at which technology is becoming fashionable, that day is not far,” says Sunil Nayyar, senior general manager,Sales,Sony India Pvt Ltd,as he inaugurates the Sony Exclusive store in Sector 17 and showcases the latest Vaio series. “It is designed keeping in view the psyche of the consumer. Fifty percent of decisions are based on the aesthetics of the gizmo,” he says, adding that the colours blue, pink, green and white were finalised after extensive market research.

Mahesh Bhalla, executive director and general manager,Consumer,Dell India, agrees. “Women look at notebooks as an extension of their personalities; hence we have been innovating with attractive colours for the past two years. We have also been working on making our notebooks lighter, sleeker and user-friendly,” says Bhalla,as he unveils Dell’s new range, including Inspiron 560s to the notebook offerings from Studio 15.

“Wrapped in curvy edges, smooth lines and brushed metal finishes with chrome accents, notebooks nowadays are aesthetically designed and can fit perfectly in a tote bag or be carried to an upscale party,” says Ashima Sahni of MCM College, who likes the latest collection from Acer.

It’s not just notebooks, mobile phones too have got a makeover. “The rectangular,brick-like shape is being replaced,” says Amit Singla who owns a mobile store in Sector 35,which stocks Swarovski-studded Micromax Q55,Motorola’s Flipout and Alcatel’s ICE3. “Nokia’s N97 Mini Gold Edition too is worth a dekko, encased in a sleek 18-carat gold body, which comes with matching accessories including a colour-matched wired headset, stylus and white leather pouch with gold finish,” Singla points out.

Earlier, all PCs looked similar minus their logos and phones had the standard grey cover. “Today, technology is as much about fashion and style as it is about feeds and speeds. Companies like Apple trumpet not only the functionality of their systems but the fine grained leather cases available as accessories,” says Preeti Verma,a second year student of Home Science College, who feels that fashion, technology and art mingle to form the perfect gizmos nowadays.

Most of the designs are intended to make a statement. “It’s all about flaunting something that denotes your lifestyle and is an expression of who you are. Besides, now it’s all about showcasing a new phone case just about everyday,” says Meenakshi Sehgal, who recently bought a Swarovski pendrive from their online store.
