A joint meeting of all the major trade unions of Punjab, including CITU,AITUC,INTUC,CTU and NTUI,held on Wednesday, criticised the Punjab government for not revising the minimum wages of industrial and agriculture workers despite the price rise.

The meeting said workers of the unorganised sector should be covered under the Minimum Wages Act and contract labour employment system should be abolished.

Attacks on peaceful trade union strikes should end,and the police cases registered against the activists should be withdrawn, the meeting demanded. The unions decided to launch a state-wide stir on April 18 and hold a demonstration in Chandigarh on May 11.
