Pop music in India may not be doing as well as it did in the 90s,but Neha Bhasin, who was part of Indias first all-girls band Viva, can certainly not be blamed for not trying. Bhasin is all set to prove her mettle with her debut solo album Tabaah that will be out this month (Beat Factory,Rs 150).
Her number Kuch khaas hai from Madhur Bhandarkars Fashion has found acclaim in the industry and Bhasin says its just the right time to come up with her solo album. Bollywood has been kind to me but this album will definitely put me in a new light. I always grew up writing and singing my own music. So it is good to be on your own and do what you love the most performing. This album showcases different shades of me as an artiste, says Bhasin, whose video titled Apple Bottoms is already garnering hits on You Tube and is being circulated on social networking sites. The song has been shot in Ukraine and also has a remix and Tamil version. Other songs include a racy Punjabi track. The album is full of floaty vocals and short riffs to appeal to the younger crowd, she says.
A nine-track album,it has been produced by Bhasins long time friend Gaurav Dayal and has been jointly composed by the two. I started working on this album three years back, when I was going through a tough phase personally. My relationships were not going great and so the albums tagline Ishq karta hai tauba was born, says Bhasin. Now the album is ready and Bhasin confesses to being nervous. It is a tough industry to be in. I have my fingers crossed, she says.
