Top seed Kalyani of Manav Mangal School,Sector 21,continued to dazzle with her skills as she defeated Naina Suri of DAV-8 by a margin of 8-11,11-2,12-10 ,11-5 to enter the final of the junior girls category in the Manav Mangal Open Table Tennis Tournament played at the Manav Mangal Smart School Hall,Sector 64,on Friday.
Kalyani,who recently claimed the women’s singles title in the Chandigarh State Ranking Table Tennis Tournament,lost the first game 8-11 but she won the next three games to secure a final berth. She will meet Somana Shah in the final who defeated Garima of Bhavan Vidalaya of Sector 27 by 11-5,11-4,11-9.
Meanwhile,it will be an all NPS-18 affair in the junior boys’ category as Shubhankar Sarkar takes on Tarak Roy for the title. In the cadet girls’ category,Sumana of NPS-18 will take on Pareen Verma of DAV-8. Similarly,in the cadet boys’ category,Divaksh of DAV-8 will meet Pankaj of St Stephen’s -45 for the title. In the girls’ sub-junior category,Saini of Manav Mangal,Panchkula,shall take on Somana of NPS-18,while Subhakar Roy of NPS-18 will cross swords with Tarak Roy of NPS-18 in the boys’ sub-junior final.
Double delight for Nandani
Continuing with her fine performance,Nandani Sharma of St Anne’s School,Sector 32,completed a double in the AITA Championship Series at Dehradun by lifting the Under-12 singles and doubles titles. Hitting shots with accuracy,Nandani toppled top seeded Karman Kaur of Delhi in three sets in the girls’ Under-12 final. After winning the Under-12 doubles title,she looked more confident and claimed the first set with ease at 6-2. However,Karman Kaur rallied smartly and did not drop even a singles game in the second set which she won by 6-0. In the decider,Nandani and Karman exchanged stroke for stroke before the Chandigarh girl clinched the issue by winning the third set 7-5. On Thursday,she and Shristi Dhanda of Haryana had partnered to defeat Karman Kaur of Delhi and Harsimran Kaur of Haryana 5-3,2-4,10-7 in the girls’ under-12 doubles final.
GGS College-26 register win
GGS College for Women,Sector 26,recorded an easy 50-8 win over MGKMSS College of Physical Education,Jhakroudi (Samrala) in a one-sided affair during the Panjab University Inter-College Kabaddi (Women) championship played on league basis at the PU grounds on Friday. Khalsa College for Women,Sidhwan Khurd defeated MGKMSS College of Physical Education,Jhakroudi 26-10,while Dev Samaj College for Women,Ferozepur outplayed Khalsa College for Women,Sidhwan Khurd 30-8. Dev Samaj College for Women drew 17-17 with GGS College for Women,Sector 26,Chandigarh,in an exciting match.
Kundan school bag overall championship
Kundan International School won the overall championship with 85 points during the Chandigarh Open Karate Championship held on October 29 at Aanchal International School,Sector 41. Shri Guru Harkishan Public School,Sector 40,was the runner-up with 74 points,while Aanchal International School bagged the third spot with 60 points.
