To avoid poor show,Cong goes overboard

Following the poor turnout in Jalandhar city in its Punjab Bachao Yatra rally on Thursday,the Congress went overboard in assembling an impressive gathering at its Amritsar rally on Sunday — even by hiring members of the crowd.

Following the poor turnout in Jalandhar city in its Punjab Bachao Yatra rally on Thursday,the Congress went overboard in assembling an impressive gathering at its Amritsar rally on Sunday — even by hiring members of the crowd.

“We were asked to gather as much as crowd possible in today’s rally by using any means — be it on a hiring basis or by bringing workers from rural areas. I arranged some activists from rural areas,as bringing people from the city area is difficult,” said a local leader in Amritsar.

“We were told that the crowd in today’s rally will decide our fate of getting tickets in the Assembly elections,” said another leader,who admitted that he had hired some unemployed youths for the rally from nearby rural areas.

Party sources said that after the dismal show in the Jalandhar city rally,the state high command had felt highly embarrassed and even told local Amritsar leaders to defer the rally if there were chances of the incident being repeated.

Meanwhile,after some leaders received notices from the party for the poor turnout in the Jalandhar city rally,party leaders have started blaming each other for the incident.
