Time for Tea!

Life is a full circle and so is your tea cup! After raising a toast to coffee and all its exotic beans,it seems time to rediscover tea. Flip through the menu of any of the more happening cafes or bistros in town and you’ll find tea getting its space back. From herbal tea selections to flowering bud teas,Moroccan to Korean to even a blast from the past – Colonial high tea sessions – there’s enough to get you stirring in excitement!

“I am personally very fond of tea,” mentions Karan Deep Suri of Flamme Bois, the new bistro in Sector 35 as he goes on to add,“and I find that there are many like me now.” So when he was putting the menu together,Suri decided to offer a tea selection after coffee,of course. “While we do offer the dips such as Earl Grey,Darjeeling and the likes,it’s the special Chinese and Korean bud tea that you must try,” recommends Suri, who prefers the traditional brew-the-tea-leaves process. “So the tea we offer comes complete with the ritual,” he smiles to say.

Speaking of rituals,at the just-launched ‘The Daily Bread Cafe’,tucked away in Nalini and Tarun Sibal’s ‘Kid’s Own’ zone in Sector 17,brings back the charm of Colonial tea service. It’s been planned all propah down to the pot covered warm with a pretty tea cozy! “Most times one’s not looking to tuck into an elaborate lunch or dinner out. That’s where our High Tea service steps in,” mentions Tarun,as we eye the platter of lite bites that comes along boasting of some sweets and savouries. “Now it would have been rather incomplete without it,” Sibal smiles to say. The tea – and there’s quite a selection at hand ranging from Nilgiri to even orange – comes hot in a pot along with a gracious refill! For those looking to team it up with a more hearty meal,The Daily Bread Cafe, styled like an European cafe, packs in the likes of pizza,paninis,all-American munchies, even tortilla wraps and more which you can wolf down along with the tea or their special range of fresh juices.

Back to the new brew,if you’ve been digging into the fare at Cafe Nomad in Sector 26,then it’s hard not to notice the herbal tea line-up there. “It wouldn’t be fair to say that coffee’s totally out but tea is surely rising the popularity charts,” says restaurateur Priya Jagat who finds an increasing number of women in the city sipping on Chamomile tea and green tea as well. “While Orchid Lounge has been offering Jasmine tea for long,at Cafe Nomad, our new arrival is Moroccan mint tea,” she lists. High on flavour, the tea comes complete with a diffuser and you are encouraged to stir in honey and not sugar, even if its demerara! Cheers to that.
