The motorcycle and the country-made pistol used in the crime have been seized by the police. (Representational) Punjab’s Mansa police Saturday arrested three persons — Sewak Singh, Amrit Singh and Channi — for the murder of a six-year-old boy Thursday evening in Kotli Kalan village.
The murder took place when the child’s father, Jaspreet Singh, was returning home with his two children and two bike-borne men opened fire at him but missed and ended up killing the boy identified as Harudayveer Singh. The police said Sewak and Amrit are brothers while Channi is their common friend and they all live in the same village of Kotli Kalan.
According to the police, Sewak worked in the house of Jaspreet’s paternal uncle Satnam, located just beside Jaspreet’s home. According to Jaspreet, Sewak’s behaviour was indecent towards Satnam’s minor daughter who is around 12-year-old. Jaspreet used to object to this and thus a rivalry grew between him and Sewak which resulted in the murder of the child Thursday evening. The entire incident was caught on CCTV cameras installed nearby.
The motorcycle and the country-made pistol used in the crime have been seized by the police, said Mansa SSP Dr Nanak Singh.
Kotli Kalan is about 10 km from Moosa village where the parents of slain singer Sidhu Moosewala live. Friday morning, Moosewala’s parents Balkaur Singh and Charanjeet Kaur visited Jaspreet’s family in Kotli Kalan and condoled his son’s death. SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal also visited the family.
