A one of a kind competition,Baja SAE provides Indian engineering students a world-class opportunity that will simulate real-world engineering design projects. Says Hari Singh, six times National Rally Champion and manager Motorsport,JK Tyre,“As India is gearing itself to be the automotive hub of the world,we need trained and international standard manpower to sustain the growth of the Indian Automotive Industry. JK Tyre SAE Baja plays a critical role in honing the skills of engineering students and thereby benefiting the industry.” This competition is open to any engineering student team studying in undergraduate engineering college in India with the driver of the team of age above 18 years and having a permanent driving license. From Chandigarh, the students of Punjab Engineering College (PEC) have manufactured their Baja. “It’s an off road vehicle which runs on petrol, and is tested on design, engineering, planning, manufacturing, cost management, safety and marketing. The team’s goal is to design and build a prototype of a rugged single seat,off-road recreational four-wheel vehicle which is safe, easily transported, maintained and fun to drive. The Baja runs on 60 km per hour and has a mileage of 20-25 km. It also has a 350cc engine and it is four stroked with Continuous Variable Transmission (CVT) which has been used in the car specially imported from America,” rattle the students from third and final year engineering – Kamal Garg, the team leader, Vikas Singh,Harish Puri,Varinder Pal Singh and other 14 engineering students.
