Manav Mangal wins contest

Chandigarh:Manav Mangal Smart School,Sector 64,Mohali,bagged the first prize at Fanta Feista in the Thematic Play event held at the school’s auditorium on Saturday. DPS Chandigarh and Dikshant school were the runners-up. Fourteen schools of the Tricity participated in the event and performed on various themes like female foeticide,child labour and water conservation.

Short story writing competition held

Chandigarh:Chandigarh Literary Society (CLS) on Saturday awarded the winners of the short-story writing competition organised by them. Dinker Vashisht won the first prize for his story ‘August Rose’ while Nayantara Singh’s ‘The Last Tsar’,and Suneet Kheterpal’s untitled story won the second and third prizes respectively.

Programme for underprivileged

Chandigarh:The Rotary Club of Chandigarh,in association with Chandigarh Institute of Hotel Management,has launched a capacity building programme for the underprivileged. The six-week programme is available in Food & Beverages as well as in House Keeping. Those completing the course successfully with 90 per cent attendance will receive Rs1,500 as stipend.

Cops seize 18 kg of poppy husk

Chandigarh:The Chandigarh Police on Saturday arrested a local with 18 kg of poppy husk and booked him under Section 15 of the NDPS Act. Sukhdev Singh,of Badheri village,who hails from Punjab,was arrested during a routine checking near the Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU) turn at Industrial Area (Phase I),Chandigarh. A first information report (FIR) has been registered against him at the Industrial Area police station.
