Jobless engineer commits suicide
Bathinda: Surjit Singh,a 24-year-old man,allegedly committed suicide at his parents residential quarter near Bathinda Central Jail. Surjits father works as jail warder at Moga jail,while his mother is said to be working in Bathinda Central Jail on a clerical position. Surjit,Civil Lines SHO Jaspal Singh said,had done B.Tech,and had been searching for a job and was depressed due to that. His dead body was found hanging by a cloth tied to the ceiling fan.
Dairy farmers seek higher rates
Chandigarh: Members of Progressive Dairy Farmers Association (PDFA) organised a meeting to protest the low procurement rates for fresh milk given to them by Milkfed. In a statement issued here,president of PDFA Daljeet Singh said that for the last one year,procurement price of fresh milk is stagnant. Members said that from 2007 to 2009,there has been a 25 per cent increase in the sale price of milk in the market,but a corresponding increase in procurement price of milk has not been made. PDFA protested that the procurement rates are higher in Haryana. Even within Punjab,the rates are different in various districts,they said.
Centre deserves credit for schemes
Ludhiana: Punjab Pradesh Congress General Secretary,Parminder Singh Pinki,on Saturday said the SAD-BJP government should give due credit to the Centre for the fully funded Central schemes being implemented in the state rather than unnecessarily projecting the same as its own achievements. Pinki made a specific reference to the ambulance service launched throughout the state under the National Rural Health Mission.
