One arrested in cop assault case

After transfer of Police Post-43 in-charge Sucha Singh,Crime Branch on Friday night arrested one of the two accused,who was booked for assaulting an on-duty cop when he tried to intervene in a quarrel on October 16. The sub-inspector handling the case was transferred to the police lines. The Investigation was also transferred to the Crime Branch. Crime Branch arrested Shiv Kumar on Friday around 8 pm from Burail village. Kumar has been remanded to two-day police custody.

Police arrest 2,claim 8 theft cases solved

The police on Saturday claimed to have solved eight cases of auto theft with the arrest of two persons,identified as Darshan and Sanjay. In the backdrop of the rise in the number of auto theft in Mani Majra,the police had launched a special drive and arrested the two youths near Kala Gram. They recovered a motorcycle from their possession which was allegedly stolen from Panchkula. Investigations revealed that the accused were involved in similar thefts in the past in the Tricity. Later,seven more vehicles were recovered . A local court remanded the two in two-day police custody.

Major accident averted in Sec 24

There was high tension in Sector 24 on Saturday morning after chlorine gas leaked from a cylinder that was being ferried by a municipal corporation (MC) truck. The defective cylinder was being transferred from Water Works department in Sector 12 to the corporation’s treatment plant in Mohali Phase-11 to stop the leakage.

UP man gets 7-yr RI for rape of minor

Panchkula: A local court on Saturday sentenced a 24-year-old man to seven years of rigorous imprisonment for kidnapping and sexually assaulting a minor. The court of Additional District Sessions Judge Gurvinder Kaur also slapped a penalty of Rs 20,000 on the guilty.

Singh new chief postmaster general
