In a daring act,a local school teacher nabbed a snatcher who had tried to snatch the chain of his teacher wife on Tuesday afternoon.
In her statement to the police,Sudhir Raghavs wife Santosh alleged that the accused came on a bicycle and tried to snatch her chain. But he reportedly lost his balance, fell on her and fled.
The incident took place in Sector 18,when Santosh had gone to a bus stop near her residence to pick up her son. According to Santosh, the accused was following her.
I tightly held my chain. He could not snatch it and fled. I came running back to my house and saw my husband, who had just returned from school, Santosh told Newsline.
He chased the cyclist and caught him.
Raghav said the incident was witnessed by their neighbours. I followed the cyclist, who drove in a narrow lane, where my car could not go. I left my car, chased him on foot and caught him, he said.
Subsequently,he called the police, which took the accused to Sector-16 police post.
I and my wife reached the police post and narrated the incident. They noted down our particulars and told us they would contact us, Raghav added.
The police, however, are yet to register a case in the matter,as the benefit of doubt favours the accused.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (Headquarters) Rajesh Kalia said,The name of the accused is Sunny. Preliminary investigations have revealed that Sunny is an orphan and a resident of Jalandhar.
The accused has reportedly told the police that he was riding his bicycle in Sector 18 when he lost balance and fell on the lady, who thought him to be a snatcher.
But if the Raghav couple gives a written complaint against him,we will investigate the case further, DSP Kalia said.
