Talent Pool

To recognise the talent of schoolchildren who have made a mark at an early age in fields such as art,culture,science and sports,the students of International School of Media have come up with a film titled North India’s Young Achievers. Produced by the media and film academy which is located in Sector 38,Chandigarh,the film showcases young achievers from various schools across the region. “We undertook this exercise a year back. We sent applications to various schools for participation,and once they were in,we got in touch with them and started shooting ,” says Piyoosha Sharma,the academy’s director,who conceptualised the film.

With around two minutes of screen time dedicated to each child,Sharma is keen to screen the 25-minute film in schools and take it to film festivals as well. “This is the budding talent of our country and their stories need to be highlighted,” says Sharma. International cyclist Jashanjeet Kaur from YPS Patiala,young photojournalist Bazm Verma from Panchkula’s Satluj Public School,national football champ Aman Madra from Mohali’s Doon International School and maths wizards Jasjeet Singh Raikhi from Ludhiana’s Springdale Public School and Hrithik Goyal from Gurukul Global School Chandigarh — are some of the names that feature in the film.

“Our aim is to motivate them and set an example for others,” says Sharma. The film has been directed by Munish Sharma and scripted by Gagandeep Singh. Other crew members include cinematographer Navraj Kaur,VFX specialist Shubham Kumar,animator Lovepreet Singh,compositor Sumit Sethi and video editor Gurpreet Singh. Known for making educative films,the institute recently roped in and trained slum children from Chandigarh for filmmaking. Next up is a film on mental disabilities.
