Had the night been recorded in black-and-white mode,it could have well been a scene from an Audrey Hepburn classic. Except the opera-like set constructed at the Main Show Area 1 at Pragati Maidan for the grand finale presentation of Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week Spring-Summer 2014,on Sunday, was bright red in colour and superbly dramatic. Considering it was the venue for designer Ashish N Sonis show,who is known for his drama-free shows,it came as a surprise.
Soni transported the audience to the opulent days and nights of Hollywood in the 60s through his collection titled La Dolce Vita and took us on a journey with him to the era of glamour and style. In a change from the norm,the ramp was set up like the stage of a musical with various platforms and a Motown mic in the middle,and with Delhi-based duo Adil (Manuel) and Vasundhra (Vidalur) belting out ditties,it got members of the audience dancing and swaying.
Whats a grand finale with no drama? Caught up in Vasundhras rendition of Aint no sunshine and Foxy Lady,wed forgotten all about the possibility of a celebrity showstopper. But even as the models posed on stage,in walked actor Anil Kapoor,looking dapper in a black tux and giving every boy on the ramp a run for his money. Having kept a low-profile for the last few seasons,Soni sure made a resounding return to the WIFW ramp with this show. A dose of drama always helps,but its when the creations match up that the show leaves a lasting impression. And this one did just that.
