A Seven -member delegation of the Government Teachers Union (GTU) met Director Public Instructions (Schools) Samwartak Singh on Wednesday to press upon appropriate action in the incident wherein a teacher was slapped by certain outsiders in the premises of Government Model Senior Secondary School,Sector 35.
The delegation demanded the boys involved in the incident be arrested immediately and legal action be initiated against them.
GTU president Vinod Sharma submitted a written memorandum to DPI (S) pointing out the security concerns of schools.
Calling the episode a lapse on part of the authorities,Sharma demanded security in and around the school to be beefed up to avoid such incidents in the future.
Despite the teachers refusal to lodge a police complaint,GTU members demanded the filing of an FIR since it is a grave matter for the teaching fraternity.
The incident has hurt our dignity and reaching a compromise is no solution. Such things should be discouraged and proper action is essential. We will go ahead with the complaint, Sharma said. The union has also demanded a magisterial enquiry into the incident as they are reportedly not satisfied with the findings of the District Education Officer and have given a weeks notice to the Education department.
Meanwhile,DPI(S) Samwartak Singh said he will look into the matter and ensure justice is delivered to the teachers.
The economics teacher of Government Model Senior Secondary School,Sector 35,was allegedly slapped on Monday while she was taking a class. Three boys entered the room through the window and she was slapped by one of the boys when she asked them to leave.
Also,nearly 100 teachers held a protest today at Masjid Ground,Sector 20,against inaction in the incident and also against the termination of services of a teacher in GMSSS-47 on charges of corporal punishment. The teachers raised slogans against the Education department and demanded effective security in schools to prevent outsiders from entering the campus.
