Three powerful stories of Rabindranath Tagore, translated in Punjabi and dramatised for stage will be presented by Roopak Kala and Welfare Society,in association with Ministry of Cultural Affairs,Haryana, and NZCC,Patiala. Adapted and directed by Sangeeta Gupta and Chakresh, stories – The Home-Coming; My Lord,The Baby or Little Master’s Return; and The Trust Property – are based revolve around children and their lives.

“Tagore’s deep and pure love for children gave his stories amazing energy,’’ reflects Gupta, whose group works closely with children.

The first story,The Home-Coming,is an insight into the life of a 14-year-old boy,who has the deep desire to go back to his village,as he has been sent to his uncle’s house by his mother as a punishment for his unruly behaviour.

The second story,My Lord,The Baby or Little Master’s Return,is about the incredible bond of affection between a servant and his little master. Raicharan’s loyalty to his master is extraordinary and the story is a sensitive portrayal of Raicharan’s guilt,as he blames himself for his little master’s death and offers his own son to the master.

The third story,The Trust Property, witnesses a child being killed because of the greed of his grandfather. The miser wishes to save his wealth for his next generation, but the tragedy is that he unknowingly kills his own grandson in the process.

The plays will be staged at Tagore Theatre on May 14 at 7 pm. Entry is free.
