Sukhu government distances itself from minister Vikramaditya Singh’s ‘eateries must display owner’s ID’ remark

The government spokesperson said that a committee chaired by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Harshvardhan Chauhan has been formed to look into the street vendors’ policy and it includes Congress and BJP legislators. The committee members include Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Anirudh Singh, Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh, and MLAs Anil Sharma, Satpal Satti, Randhir Sharma, and Harish Janartha.

The spokesperson said that suggestions have been received from various sections of society regarding the policy, and every aspect of the matter is being considered with sensitivity. The committee will review the suggestions from various stakeholders before providing its recommendations to the state government on the matter. He added that a final decision would only be made after a thorough evaluation of these recommendations by the cabinet.

Talking to The Indian Express over the phone from Delhi, Vikramaditya, the son of six-time CM Virbhadra Singh, said that he had made his comments as the urban development minister and not as a member of the committee on the street vendors’ policy. “The committee is yet to form a policy. But whatever I said pertaining to the display of IDs of owners at eateries and food stalls is based on certain guidelines issued by the apex court and some high courts,” he added.

Vikramaditya’s remarks on Wednesday came a day after the Uttar Pradesh government made it mandatory for food outlets across the state to display the name and address of operators, proprietors and managers.
