Uncertainty prevails as government schools are relying on confidential marks provided by CBSE,private schools following their own set of rules
The grade system was introduced to unburden students but it has created confusion among schools and anxiety among the students seeking admission to Class XI.
In the absence of any clarity, the government schools in the city are yet to adopt the criteria for admission to Class XI,though this time too it would be centralised only. In case of private schools, students will have to go through personal interviews and aptitude tests for taking a few seats as a majority of schools have filled their seats on the basis of pre-boards marks.
Surprisingly, the UT Education Department is hoping to rely on marks to be secretly provided by the CBSE during the admission process. But how and for how many students they would be provided these secret marks is still not clear.
While the Education Department is still in the process of initiating the formulation of guidelines for the criteria to be adopted for centralised admission in the government schools, one thing they are clear about is getting marks of selective students confidentially from the CBSE.
On the one hand while with the introduction of grade system, the board has overruled the practice of marks, the UT Education Department is eager to use marks for admissions in Class XI.
We would be using the CGPA for the purpose of centralised admissions. In case if there are more than one student for one seat,we would be using the marks which is assured to be provided confidentially by the CBSE. For this,we would be sending the list of students roll numbers to the board. We are still in the process of finalising the dates and the process. The prospectus for centralised admissions would be out by the month-end and the counselling would start in July, said the Director Public Instructions (Schools) Sunil Bhatia.
When asked about the criteria adopted by the department to shortlist students whose marks, apart from the existing CGPA and subject grades, would be required as it would be clear at the time of the last stage of the admission process-counselling,he failed to give any satisfactory response.
In the absence of any set guideline from the board for admission to Class XI in private schools, students opting for the remaining seats in the private schools should prepare themselves for personal interviews, aptitude tests and discretion of the school. As most of the private schools have done with the provisional admissions on the basis of their pre-board marks, there are a few seats remaining in the private schools.
Already, the schools have filled in the Class XI seats on the basis of their pre-board marks, the remaining would be filled on the basis of CGPA and subject grades. Also, the schools would be conducting personal interviews, aptitude tests but then it would be the school authority discretion to admit a child in a particular stream, said Independent Schools Association Harmeet Singh Mamik.
