Street Smart

After Saroj Khan and Farah Khan,it’s now the turn of choreographer Shiamak Davar to judge a dance-based reality show.

After Saroj Khan and Farah Khan,it’s now the turn of choreographer Shiamak Davar to judge a dance-based reality show. Starting May 24,UTV Bindass’ new programme Street Dance will partner with Davar’s dance institute in search of an outstanding street dancer.

“It’s a show that takes dancing to the country’s streets, rooftops, houses, garages, just anywhere you wish to be,” says Davar, who will act as a mentor for the show. “I will be giving tips and guidance to the contesting teams ensuring that they give good performances. I will also pick a wild card entry who I believe should be given the opportunity to get a direct entry into the finals,” he adds, confessing that he has kept away from the reality shows on dance so far because he found them to be repetitive.

Dancers will be picked up from dance schools, colleges, local co-ordinators for the show. The tri-weekly show will explore dance forms like Krumping,

B-boying,Hip Hop,Tap Dance, contemporary and Bollywood. Participants from across the nation can register by mailing or uploading their dance videos on Bindass’ website. The winner gets to take home a year-long dance scholarship at the Shiamak Davar Institute of Performing Arts where he’ll be trained and groomed by Davar himself. “Dance on the streets has a bit of everything and has immense potential. There are people who have the talent but not the means. We want to help nurture their talent,” says Davar. However,he is firm on the point that everyone should get a sound education before foraying into any field of work. “Life is very uncertain, and education always comes in handy,” he says.
