Making it clear that for the personal convenience of one individual, interests of thousands of candidates cannot be jeopardised, the Punjab government on Wednesday opposed the demand of postponing the date of examination for Punjab Civil Services (Executive Branch),which is slated to be held on December 19.
An affidavit in response to a public interest litigation (PIL) was filed by Inderjit Singh Sandhu,IAS,Secretary,Examination,Punjab Public Service Commission,Patiala, before a division bench comprising Chief Justice Mukul Mudgal and Justice Ranjan Gogoi of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The case has now been posted for December 14. The court has not stayed or postponed the date of the much awaited examination. The development took place during the resumed hearing of a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by Bhushan Kumar,a resident of Punjab.
The petitioner had contended that the date fixed for the examination was clashing with UGC Net Examination and, therefore,he would lose the opportunity to appear for the other examination if he sat for the PCS (Executive Branch) and Combined Punjab State Civil Services Examination. The petitioner demanded that the date of the latter should be postponed.
The plea is misleading to the extent that the examinations for the UGC Net are held every six months and even if he is not able to sit in this particular examination,he will not lose the opportunity to sit for the next examination six months later. Hence,it is frivolous and misleading on his part to create his grievance, which has no ground… Moreover,28,562 candidates are sitting for the preliminary examination on December 19. The date has been fixed and was announced in the print media as well as on the website of the PPSC on November 9,which is 40 days prior to the examination. At this hour,he wants to jeopardise the opportunity of 28,562 candidates who are sitting for the preliminary examination, reads the response.
